It is soon going to be a month since Apple first released iOS 11 for all compatible iPhones and iPads. While the latest version of the OS comes with a number of new features and enhancements, it also comes with its own fair share of issues. More specifically, older iOS device owners have been complaining about poor performance, dropped frames, and poor multitasking performance since upgrading to iOS 11.
The issue seems to affect not only older iOS devices like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 but also more recent ones like the iPhone 7 and iPad Pro. On my 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the iOS 11 update has led to the device stuttering and dropping frames randomly. The battery life has also taken a huge hit and I now need to charge the device more frequently. And this is after I did a clean install of iOS 11 on it.
While Apple has rolled out three minor point releases of iOS 11 to fix bugs, I have not noticed any performance improvements with them. Despite benchmarks suggesting otherwise that newer iOS releases don’t slow down older devices, I am just not satisfied with how the performance of my relatively new 9.7-inch iPad Pro has tanked after upgrading it to iOS 11. And I am still using the same set of apps which I was using when I was on iOS 10.
