Ahead of the release of the Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE, many reviewers noted that it had issues connecting to the LTE network of its chosen wireless carrier.
Apple eventually confirmed that it did indeed have an issue, but that it was minor, and that a software fix would be released in the future to patch it. Sure enough, the software release is now available. Today, Apple officially released watchOS 4.0.1, which is primarily meant to fix the LTE connectivity issues in the Series 3 with LTE.
“watchOS 4.0.1 fixes issues that in rare cases were causing Apple Watch to join unauthenticated (captive) Wi-Fi networks, such as those found in public places like coffee shops and hotels, which direct the user to a webpage before the network can be accessed.”
The software update will primarily fix the LTE connectivity issues, one will hope, and may also address some behind-the-scenes tweaks and changes. However, Apple is also currently beta testing watchOS 4.1, which will include a far more comprehensive fix for any lingering issues that have been discovered since the release of watchOS 4 earlier this year.
If you have an Apple Watch and want to update, the smartwatch needs to have at least 50 percent battery life, needs to be connected to its charger, and must be within range of the connected iPhone. The software is available now, so owners can install it at their leisure.
