Apple’s Clips app, which allows for quick video editing and sharing, launched earlier this year.
And today, Apple officially announced that it has released a software update for the app which not only adds new features, as well as new content, but also redesigns the user interface to make using the app even easier and faster. That includes a new design that makes frequently used controls easier to access, as well as launching an Effects browser, which will let users quickly select stickers, effects, and more. There are new labeled buttons which should make editing videos even easier, and new full-screen browser.
Clips now also includes iCloud support, which means edited videos are automatically backed up to the cloud for easy backup. It also means that if you start an edit of a video on your iPhone, but want to give it a shot on the iPad, you’ll be able to save and pick up from right where you left off on the bigger display.
Machine learning is also getting utilized in the updated app:
“New artistic effects use advanced machine learning and style transfer technology to turn any photo or video into a moody oil painting, vibrant watercolor or elegant pencil sketch — in real time while recording.”
Clips is also introducing new content from Disney, including from popular properties like Star Wars films where users can now include stickers of Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and other characters. Other Disney/Pixar films are also supported, including characters from UP and other popular films.
The other major new addition is “Selfie Scenes.”
“…users can choose from 10 Apple-designed scenes, featuring unique locations, characters, colors and visual styles plus two scenes from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Each scene is a full 360-degree experience, so it surrounds users on all sides as they move iPhone X. And environmental sound effects make scenes even more immersive.”
This new feature is made possible through the TrueDepth camera system that Apple introduced with the iPhone X, so owners will have something to show off with their device if they use the Clips app.
The new version of the app is rolling out now. A link to download it is available.
