Facebook Launches ‘World Effects’ AR Feature for Messenger

Facebook World Effects

Facebook is taking a leaf out of Snapchat’s playbook (again) by announcing “World Effects” for Messenger, an AR feature that lets you place 3D objects on top of people or animals around you. This nifty feature makes for some exciting videos and photos, with the current selection including hearts, robots and arrows.

There are other effects like bubbles which say “bae”, “love” “heart”, and “miss you”, while some of these also come with audio and video effects to add more emotions to your videos. While the selection of 3D objects is relatively slim right now, Facebook has announced that more will be coming soon.

The feature is live right now and is available globally. Users simply have to open the camera on Messenger and search for these objects among the camera effects. Although the changes should be visible on Messenger right away, it might require you to be on the latest version of Messenger. So be sure to update Messenger from the App Store if you’re having trouble finding the feature.

Here’s what Facebook had to say about World Effects:

World Effects technology enables you to drop 3D objects into your surroundings to capture and share fun moments with your family and friends. For example, add a 3D heart floating over someone’s head and then try panning your phone’s camera from side to side. Or use an arrow to point to an exact object or location in a panorama so your friend knows what you’re referring to.
