Unless you’ve been living under a cave, you’d know that the iPhone X is one of the most popular phones in the world right now. That status is expected to remain over the coming months as Apple gets its supply in order. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the iPhone X is ranked No. 3 among global search trends on Google this year.
Surprisingly, the iPhone 8 is on the 2nd spot, beating even the iPhone X. Hurricane Irma was the most popular search term, given the massive devastation it caused along the coast of Florida a few months ago.
Disgraced Today Show host Matt Lauer also made his way to the list (No. 4) following his ouster as the anchor of the popular morning show. Lauer topped the list of the most Googled people in 2017.
The rest on the top 10 among global search trends are as follows – Meghan Markle, 13 Reasons Why, Tom Petty, Fidget Spinner, Chester Bennington and the India National Cricket Team.
The fact that the iPhone 8 came in at No. 2 this year could be due to the massive hype surrounding the flagship before its release. With the iPhone X going live in September, most were somewhat surprised, which explains how search trends boosted it to the third place.
This list perfectly illustrates the popularity that Apple enjoys around the world. The iPhone 6s and the Apple Watch were ranked 1st and 3rd respectively in 2015, so this trend is not really new for the Cupertino giant.
