Microsoft’s Xbox app for iOS is a quick and easy way to check up on your friend’s list, the community feed, and even buy things from the Microsoft Store.
And it looks like it will be getting one more feature in the future. Microsoft’s Major Nelson (Larry Hryb) recently tweeted out that the company is currently beta testing a feature that would allow iOS app users to join a Party chat. Up to this point, if you wanted to join a Party chat on the Xbox One, you’d either need the console or be on a Windows PC.
Xbox party chat beta is now available in the Xbox beta app for Android (available in app store) and iOS (sign up for the iOS beta here https://t.co/4jXxF2CQs2)

This new feature is similar to the way that Nintendo handles talking to people on the Nintendo Switch, except that methodology is game-specific. So you’ll need to be playing the same game as the person you want to talk to. While details are light on how Microsoft will implement the Party chat feature in the Xbox app, it stands to reason that it won’t work the same way as Nintendo’s. Meaning you more than likely won’t have to be playing the same game to talk to someone.
As Hryb points out, the Party chat functionality is being beta tested right now for both iOS and Android apps. If you want to sign up for the iOS beta, you can click this link right here.
There’s no word on when the feature will roll out to the public, but with it already in the beta phase, it may be sooner rather than later.
