As announced earlier, Apple’s discounted battery replacement program for the iPhone 6 and above is now available in India as well. Apple had initially announced that the program would be available for iPhone owners worldwide from late January but then announced late last week that it is making the program live effective immediately.
Under this program, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 owners would be able to get the battery inside their iPhone replaced for only Rs 2,000 plus taxes in India. Otherwise, without the discount, the battery replacement process costs upwards of Rs 6,000 in the country.
In addition to the discounted battery replacement program, Apple will also be releasing a software update in early 2018 that will provide iPhone owners with more information about the health of their device.
Apple admitted to intentionally slowing down older iPhones after a Geekbench data pointed out that older iPhones were performing slower than usual in its benchmark. Following a huge backlash, the Cupertino company issued a statement clarifying that it slows down older iPhones as a part of its power management feature and to cope up with their old batteries which are unable to supply the required voltage. This way, the company is also able to prevent older iPhones from randomly shutting down. However, the revelation from Apple led to it receiving a lot of criticism as it was not upfront about this whole matter right from the starting. Thus, in a bid to keep its angry and disappointed customers happy, Apple has reduced the battery replacement cost for iPhone 6 and above to $29 throughout 2018.
This controversial power management feature from Apple affects some key areas of an iPhone including app loading times, lower speak output and screen brightness, and more. Make sure to read all about it here.Like this post? Share it!
