Users of Apple News were in for an unpleasant Tuesday, as the service sent out several notifications for the same news article from CNN. Since then, several users have been quick to point the blame at CNN. Well, the company has now defended itself in a tweet, claiming that the article was only sent once from its servers, thus directly pointing blame at Apple.
However, it’s important to note that a majority of the users saw this happening only with one CNN news story, while there are reports of some users getting repeated alerts of a Fox News story.
We are aware that some Apple News users recently received multiples of the same alert. Our server log shows CNN sent only one. We are working with Apple to identify their issue, as users on CNN-owned platforms did not experience a problem. Apologies to those who did.

The issue was naturally quite irritating especially considering the frequency at which the notifications were arriving. Turning off notifications for Apple News was perhaps the only remedy for this, although Apple was quick to patch the bug. It is said that the excessive notifications alert only lasted for about 15 minutes, which came as a relief for the users.
However, given the nature of the bug, we can understand how it could have inconvenienced the customers. Apple is yet to comment on the issue, although we expect a word on it very soon. Customers can now use Apple News normally with the bug fixed for good.
