Apple released iOS 11.2.5 with some minor bug fixes and improvements to Siri in preparation for the HomePod launch. In between these iOS releases, Apple has added a fix for Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities which negatively impacted the performance of Intel and AMD CPUs.
In addition to Meltdown and Spectre, iOS 11.2.5 also fixes the ChaiOS bug which led to the iMessage app crashing due to a malicious link. Due to these bug fixes, it is important that you update your iPhone to iOS 11.2.5. So it would be interesting to see how iOS 11.2.5 compares to iOS 11.2.2 in benchmarks and if there is any hit in the performance of older iPhones due to the patches and bug fixes.
As the above videos show, the performance difference between iOS 11.2.5 and iOS 11.2.2 is negligible. The benchmark scores of iPhones starting right from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone 5s are identical under both versions of the OS. With any other point release of iOS, this would have been a given. But here, one must remember iOS 11.2.5 includes patches for Spectre and Meltdown which have had a negative performance impact on desktop class processors. Thus, it is impressive to see Apple patch these two serious hardware vulnerabilities with little to no impact on performance.
If you were having second thoughts about updating to iOS 11.2.5 due to performance impacts, you can now rest assured that this is not going to be the case.
