Despite the fact that Apple has already landed some big-name projects for its original content initiative, the work continues.
Today, Variety reports that screenwriter/director/producer J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Wars: The Fore AwakensFringe, and the general plot will focus on a “world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force.”
While Abrams has written this project, he will also be producing it as well, with Warner Bros. Pictures being the main production arm for the new drama. While Apple and HBO are currently the frontrunners for the bidding process right now, Warner Bros. is apparently open to other bidders stepping in.
As it stands right now, Apple has already secured several top-tier projects. That includes a brand new series based on Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories, as well as a new drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jenifer Aniston. On top of that, to branch out its projects, Apple has already ordered to series a docuseries that will detail the most extravagant homes across the globe.
Apple’s initiative for original content started off pretty rocky, with things like Planet of the Apps and a new series of Carpool Karaoke. However, looking ahead, there’s a lot to be excited about as far as shows and films are concerned. This new series from Abrams, if Apple can land it, will be another huge project to show off.
Of course, it will all come down to how Apple distributes it.
