Even though Electra Jailbreak allows you to install jailbreak apps and tweaks, many jailbreakers are waiting for Jay Freeman aka saurik to release Cydia and Cydia Substrate, which would make it very easy to install them.
The news that saurik will be speaking at SpartaHack IV, a Michigan State University’s fourth annual student-run hackathon last night, had sparked off speculations that he might reveal some details about when Cydia for iOS 11 will be released, and maybe even the iOS 11 jailbreak tool by “people from past jailbreaks.”
However, a reddit user who attended the hackathon has just confirmed that he did not provide any release date for iOS 11 compatible Cydia and Cydia Substrate. It looks like there is still some work to be done. The reddit user writes:
Contrary to popular belief, Saurik’s presentation was not focused on jailbreaking. He touched on a variety of topics like closed ecosystems, censorship, the concerning amount of data and analytics companies have on their user base. [..]
[..] ETA on ETA?
None given. He’s hopefully close, but needs to work on solving a few more tricky pieces before it’d be ready.
Interestingly, he was also asked about the future of jailbreaking, “he wasn’t optimistic, but he acknowledged he’s been saying “this’ll be the last jailbreak” for like 5 years now.”
So I guess the wait for Cydia and Cydia Substrate for iOS 11 continues. We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve any updates.
