It was not just the iPhone X which has been a best seller for Apple since its release. The Apple Watch Series 3, which was unveiled alongside the iPhone X in September, also helped the Apple Watch lineup post its best-ever quarterly results.
Apple revealed that it sold twice the Apple Watch Series 3 models this year compared to Series 2 variants last year. Overall, Apple Watch saw a 50 percent increase in shipment and revenue for the fourth consecutive quarter. The company also revealed that wearables, which includes the AirPods, Apple Watch, and Beats, made the second largest contribution to its revenue growth after the iPhone lineup.
In 2017, Apple’s ‘Other’ category comprising of the Apple TV, Apple Watch, Beats, iPod, AirPods etc. contributed $4 billion in revenues which increased to $5.5 billion this year.
The rapid increase in Apple Watch sales with every passing quarter can be attributed to Apple partnering with insurance companies and enterprises to push the sales of the wearable. Apart from LTE connectivity and a faster processor, Apple Watch Series 3 does not offer any other significant improvement over the Series 2 model. Yet, the wearable has done well thanks to Apple’s strong push of its wearable among enterprises.
