Last year, Apple unveiled a wireless charging mat, called AirPower, and said that the device would be launching “soon”.
Unfortunately, that turned out to be not soon enough, as many customers are still eagerly anticipating the accessory’s arrival. Earlier this month it was rumored that the AirPower Qi-based wireless charging mat would arrive sometime in March, but no specific date was provided. And now we have yet another rumor echoing that sentiment, that the accessory could bow into the market before the end of this month.
Specifically, this report comes from the hit-or-miss DigiTimes publication, which states that the AirPower charging mat could launch “before the end of March”. Unfortunately, the report doesn’t go into any additional details, and there is no way of knowing whether or not this is what Apple is actually planning just yet. Still, with just over two weeks to go before the end of the month arrives, we don’t have to wait long to find out if it’s true or not.
Apple is also expected to launch a wireless charging case for its truly wireless headphones, the AirPods, which is expected to arrive alongside the launch of the AirPower wireless charging mat. So we could see that new accessory getting launched soon as well.
Apple’s initial goal of “early 2018” is still technically on track, which is a good thing. Of course, for many potential customers the sooner the better, which Apple is well aware of. No word on pricing just yet, but a previous rumor did suggest the AirPower charging mat would cost $199, which does seem admittedly pretty expensive.
