Pokémon GO’s Latest Event Focuses on Kanto Region Pocket Monsters

Niantic has been launching a lot of events lately for its augmented reality-based mobile game Pokémon GO, and that trend continues.

Today, the developer announced a new Kanto region-based event, with a big focus on first-generation pocket monsters like Aerodactyl and Snorlax — with these two being located in Raid Battles, as well as being found more often in the wild. The new event kicks off today, April 10, at 1:00 PM PT and will run until Tuesday, April 17.

“What’s more, certain Pokémon such as Aerodactyl and Snorlax will be featured in Raid Battles across the world. Keep an eye out for one you haven’t encountered yet!

As you encounter and catch more Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region, all actions will be rewarded with double Candy. So, not only will you be able to catch Pokémon you might not frequently see, but you may also get the chance to register their evolved forms in your Pokédex as well.”

In addition to that, when you transfer a Pokémon, trainers will get double the amount of candy.

Recently, Niantic announced a major update to the AR title, confirming that a new story element would be added to the game, as well as adding the Legendary pocket monster Mew into the mix. That update went live not too long ago.

Our Take

Pokémon GO is still a fun game to play from time-to-time, and the new daily prizes and story elements are a nice addition. These smaller events, which focus on bringing more pocket monsters to the fore, might not be enough to get more players to open up the game again, but it’s perfect for those who still need to fill out their Pokédex.
