As rumored, Apple today announced a Product(RED) iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus that will go on sale online tomorrow (April 10) and hit the stores on April 13. Sadly, the company has not announced a Product(RED) edition of the iPhone X which will disappoint many.
On the bright side, Apple seems to have paid heed to user feedback from the Product(RED) iPhone 7 it launched last year and switched to a black fascia at the front for the iPhone 8.
“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing.
Rumors about Apple launching a Product(RED) iPhone 8 and iPhone X have been circulating for more than a month now. However, there were no leaks on that front to confirm the existence of the handsets and even Apple did not mention anything about them at its education-focused event held late last month.
Many consumers will likely be disappointed about Apple not launching a Product(RED) variant of the iPhone X. For them, Apple is launching a new Leather Folio case that is made from specially tanned and finished European leather. It will be available from tomorrow for $99.
Like with all previous (Product)RED branded products and accessories sold by Apple, a portion of proceeds of these handsets will also go towards Global Fund HIV/AIDS.
