Downgrade iOS Firmware

Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.3.1, just a few days after releasing iOS 11.4 which included a number of features such as Messages on iCloud, AirPlay 2 etc.

Since Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.3.1 firmware, you won’t be able to downgrade or upgrade to iOS 11.3.1, and will get Error 3194 – This device isn’t eligible for the requested build if they try to install iOS 11.3.1 using iTunes.

With the imminent release of Electra iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak, the ability to downgrade would have been very useful. Some users also prefer to downgrade back to the older version if they face problems after upgrading to the latest iOS software update.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that Apple has stopped signing iOS 11.3.2 firmware file, as, over the last few years, Apple has used this strategy to keep jailbreakers at bay. It not only releases new software updates, that fixes the vulnerabilities used by the jailbreaks, it also stops signing the older iOS firmware file, which prevents users from downgrading back to the older iOS version that can be jailbroken.

We hope you had taken the opportunity to downgrade or restore to iOS 11.3.1 after our reminder so you can use Electra iOS 11.3.1 Jailbreak tool when it is released to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

If you had taken a backup of iOS 11.3.1 SHSH blobs then you will be able to restore to iOS 11.3.1 using futurerestore. However, it looks like it would break Touch ID on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus and Face ID on iPhone X, so you should avoid upgrading if you have the 2017 iPhone model.

Coolstar is already working on Electra iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak based on the kernel exploit released by Ian Beer of Google’s Project Zero team.
