Since Apple first announced iOS 12 at WWDC 2018 in June, it has been dropping a beta release of the OS once every two weeks. The first beta of iOS 12 offered a notable performance boost over iOS 11 even on older iOS devices, though the performance again took a hit in newer betas. Now that Apple has released five beta releases of iOS 12, how does its performance compare to that of iOS 11.4.1?
As an extensive speed test conducted by YouTuber iAppleBytes shows, iOS 12 continues to offer a notable performance improvement over iOS 11.4. However, the performance improvement that was first noticed in the initial iOS 12 beta seems to have dropped off a bit. Now, given that iOS 12 is still in beta stages, it is possible that the final release of the OS — which is still more than 1.5 months away — will bring about a greater performance improvement.
As for now though, iOS 12 beta boots faster on all iPhones, including older ones like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6. iPhones running the beta build of iOS 12 also score higher in benchmarks like Antutu and Geekbench, with the UI browsing performance also being smoother on the upcoming release of the OS.
With less than two months to go for the final release of iOS 12 to drop, Apple will likely step up its efforts on further polishing the OS and giving it the final touches before its release. The final version of iOS 12 should offer slightly better performance than the existing beta builds due to the removal of all logging and diagnostic tools along with last minute under the hood optimizations.
Are you running iOS 12 beta on your iPhone or iPad? If yes, have you noticed any performance improvement?
