Apple unveiled iOS 12, the highly anticipated major iOS software update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch at WWDC 2018 in June, which includes several new features and improvements.
Some of the new iOS 12 features include improved performance, Memoji which allows users to quickly turn themselves into an Animoji with a variety of customization options as well, improvements to the Photos app, Siri Shortcuts which will give automation workflows to users, ARKit 2.0 and lots more.
After Apple unveiled iOS 12, one of most frequently asked question has been: When will iOS 12 be released?
Apple hasn’t announced the iOS 12 release date yet, but Apple has been quite predictable when it comes to launching new iPhones and major iOS software updates. We will try to predict the release date based on historical information.
Based on the pattern followed by Apple in the last two years, it usually releases a major iOS update on a Tuesday, and a week after the iPhone launch event.
|iPhone Launch||iOS Release Date|
|iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus launch event on September 12||iOS 11 release date – Tuesday, September 19|
|iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch event on September 7||iOS 10 release date – Tuesday, September 13|
Prior to the iPhone 7 and iOS 10 Release, Apple used to release a major software update on a Wednesday.
- iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus launch event on September 9, iOS 9 release date – Wednesday, September 16th
- iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch event on September 9, iOS 8 release date – Wednesday, September 17th
- iPhone 5s launch event on September 10, iOS 7 release date – Wednesday, September 18th
- iPhone 5 launch event on September 12, iOS 6 release date – Wednesday, September 19th
So based on the pattern followed by Apple in the last two recent releases, we predict Apple will unveil the 2018 iPhones on September 11, and the iOS 12 Release Date will be September 18. I also won’t be surprised if it releases the 2018 iPhones a week earlier to help get a bump in the iPhone sales number in the fourth quarter (third quarter for Apple), especially since Samsung is expected to launch Galaxy Note 9 almost a month earlier on August 9. So it would mean iOS 12 will be released on September 11 instead.
