There was some expectation that Apple was going to lighten its load a little bit by unveiling some new hardware, like the 2018 iPad Pro lineup, at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference back in June, but that obviously didn’t happen. Which means that September’s event is definitely not going to be all about the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max (or whatever its called), and the 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display.
If you like Apple hardware and are already planning on spending some money to buy new products this year, then tomorrow is going to be a good day.
Apple wants us to “gather round” for this event, and as usual plenty of attention is going to be paid to the individuals who are called upon to go on stage and announce the company’s newest products. We’ll see new iPhones, probably new iPad Pro models, new AirPods, and we will more than likely see a new MacBook model for good measure. We probably won’t see any Beats-branded devices, though, if the rumor mill is any indicator. Either way, there is a lot to be excited about.
Because of that, I wanted to find out what all of you might be looking forward to the most once Wednesday rolls around. The event kicks off at 10:00 AM Pacific, or 1:00 PM Eastern, and if Apple does have a lot to talk about we may see the company just dig right into it. What are you hoping that Apple announces tomorrow above anything else? What’s on your radar this week, the one thing that’s at the top of your potential to-buy list?
I am on the fence about the new iPhones, simply because the iPhone X is treating me just fine almost a year later and I’m not entirely sold on the idea of going with the bigger iPhone XS Max. I started to enjoy bigger phones with the iPhone 7 Plus, but the iPhone X feels pretty great. It’s almost perfect, size wise. Then again, having more screen real estate –even with a dumb notch at the top– wouldn’t be a bad thing.
(The frustrating part is that we’re dealing with new iPhones on launch day, so I’m just going to have to make a decision and pre-order, just to make sure that I can get one right out of the gate.)
As for a new iPad Pro? Maybe I’ll find a reason to own a tablet by the time these launch. I really enjoyed the 10.5-inch iPad Pro as a product, but I’ve already got a super portable laptop in the 12-inch MacBook so I quickly discovered I didn’t need to bring a tablet with me. Still, with the minimized bezels on the 2018 iPad Pro I may try to check out the biggest model this time around. Maybe Apple can sway me.
I’m using the Apple Watch Series 3 and I may be upgrading to the Series 4 later this month. It comes down to the bezels again. That bigger display and hopefully a meaningful increase in battery life may be enough to get me to upgrade.
I’ve been using this 12-inch MacBook since 2016 and I’ve definitely considered upgrading it more than a few times in the last several months. Depending on what Apple announces in terms of a new MacBook offering, I may be planning to actually bite the bullet and pick up a new laptop this month. Or I may wait a bit longer and see what kind of deals I can get this holiday season. I am excited to see what Apple announces in this category, though.
The one product I’m definitely already planning on picking up is the new AirPods. Rumor has it that we’re basically getting the same truly wireless design, but Apple is adding “Hey Siri” support. I can safely say that I’ll probably never use that feature, but I’m hoping there are some other changes and improvements in the new model compared to the first-gen product.
What about you? Are you hyped for the AirPower wireless charging mat? Or are you just waiting for the new software launches later this month, even if you’re skipping a hardware upgrade. What’s on your radar this week?
