Apple yesterday released iOS 12.1 with a number of new features and enhancements including 70 new emoji and support for group FaceTime. What about performance though? Does iOS 12.1 bring about further performance improvements? Or does it go in the opposite direction and actually has a negative impact on the performance of older iPhones?
Well, as it turns out, iOS 12.1 is about the same as iOS 12 in terms of performance. As per testing by YouTuber iAppleBytes, the latest iOS 12 release offers the same level of performance as the initial build. That’s actually a good thing since iOS 12.1 adds a number of new features which would have been a good way to justify any decline in performance.
Given that iOS 12.1 also fixes a number of underlying bugs, there’s little reason for one to not upgrade their iPhone or iPad to the latest iOS 12 release. Unless you are waiting for an iOS 12 jailbreak.
After years of releasing software updates that slowed down older iPhones, it is great to see Apple finally getting around to releasing software updates that don’t actually slow down its devices in the pretext of adding new features.
Have you upgraded your iPhone or iPad to iOS 12.1 yet? If yes, have you noticed any improvements or regression in terms of performance and battery life? Drop a comment and let us know!
