If you didn’t happen to take advantage of any Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals out there over the weekend, Apple has another option for you.
Apple has updated its official trade-in site to promote a limited-time promotion that sees a significant boost to the offered trade-in credit for certain devices, as long as you’re trading in that aging device towards a brand new iPhone XS or the iPhone XR. In some cases you can get up to an additional $100 towards one of those new devices.
The iPhone 6, for instance, normally trades in for $75. However, right now, you can trade that handset in and get up to $150 towards a new iPhone. The iPhone 6 Plus? That normally trades in for $100, but you can get a total of $200 right now. The iPhone 8 normally trades in for $275, but Apple will give you $300 right now if you want to get your hands on a new iPhone XR or iPhone XS.
“Trade in your eligible device for an Apple Store Gift Card or a refund on your purchase.1 If your device isn’t eligible for credit, we’ll recycle it for free. No matter the model or condition, we can turn it into something good for you and good for the planet.”
You can’t trade in your device and pick up an iPhone 8 or iPhone 7, though, and expect to get the additional trade-in credit. These bonuses appear to be in place for only buying a new iPhone XR or iPhone XS. The additional trade-in credit will be applied near the end of the checkout process when ordering your new iPhone model. If you plan to trade it in, you can either send it back to Apple in the mail, or you can take your old iPhone into an Apple Store:
“Trading in your device is as easy as buying a new one. We’ll give you a prepaid trade-in kit or shipping label to send it off. Or you can bring it to an Apple Store. We’ll either give you instant credit toward the purchase of a new product or send your device on to our recyclers.”
The device you’re trade in needs to turn on, be free of any major damage, and it has to have a working display to get the full trade-in credit, including the bonus offer.
