The iPhone XR launched a month after the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, and while some analysts have suggested the lower-cost iPhone hasn’t been doing so well, that’s apparently not the case.
Speaking with CNET, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing, Greg Joswiak, said that the iPhone XR has actually been quite popular since its debut. In fact, according to the executive, the iPhone XR has been the company’s most popular device every single day since it launched back in October. Here’s Joswiak, per the report:
“Greg Joswiak, Apple vice president of product marketing, told CNET in an interview Wednesday that the [iPhone XR] has ‘been our most popular iPhone each and every day since the day it became available.'”
If you are expecting Joswiak to go into any detail on that, well, you’ll be disappointed. That’s about all he offered on the subject. While we can’t get into the nitty gritty, and it doesn’t look like Apple is going to be announcing any of those specific details in the future, either, it’s good to see that the XR is doing well for itself. Still, Apple did drop the iPhone XR’s price by $100 on two-year contracts in Japan, so maybe that will help boost the device’s popularity in that region.
Apple’s iPhones tend to keep flying off shelves throughout the year, and it sounds like the iPhone XR is leading the charge, and has been since its debut. Does that mean we’ll see a change of pace on Apple’s part in the future? Will we see a shift towards devices that don’t cost more than $1,000? Probably not. After all, the iPhone X and the iPhone XS have been selling just fine, too.
For folks who feel like Apple is pricing them out of its ecosystem, maybe it’s something to hope for.
