Spotify recently launched a preview for an upcoming Apple Watch app, suggesting a public launch was right around the corner.
And sure enough, Spotify has just announced its brand new app dedicated to the Apple Watch. While the announcement is happening today, Spotify notes that the official rollout for the app will take place over the coming week, so it may take some time before all Spotify users have access to it. The Apple Watch app will do the standard legwork, including media playback, which should be expected.
However, the app will also make it possible for Spotify Connect users to quickly and easily control where their music is being played.
“Smartwatches let us access the world with a flick of our wrists. Ready to start your run? Hit play from your Apple Watch without having to wrangle your phone out of its running case. Running into a friend as you head into the grocery store? Tap pause to grab a cart and a chat. Not feeling a slow song during your birthday party? Skipping to the track that matches your mood and activity is now as easy as checking your notifications. Or, while listening to your favorite podcast, easily rewind 15 seconds to catch that detail you missed. It’s all right there on the watch face.”
Some playlists will be accessible in the app as well, including what the user recently played. The app will also be capable of keeping track of the songs you like while you’re listening, as Spotify has included the heart icon to favorite what you like. Spotify plans on adding offline playback at a future date.
The Apple Watch app is only available if you have the latest version of the iOS app, so make sure you have it updated. A link to the Spotify iOS app is also available below.
