In his latest investor note, reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that AirPods are going to be Apple’s best product in terms of growth rate for the foreseeable future. He also claims that Apple will launch upgraded AirPods with wireless charging in Q1, 2019.
Additionally, the company is also working on launching a new pair of AirPods with an all-new design in early 2020. Previous reports have claimed that the next-generation AirPods will come with noise cancellation and sweat-resistant design. It will also feature improved connectivity. These features will be a part of the redesigned AirPods that will debut in 2020.
As for the ones that Apple will unveil in Q1, 2019, it will feature always-on ‘Hey Siri’ detection, a rigid-flex board, and come with a wireless charging case that will be redesigned internally for improved thermal threshold. He does note that the 2019 AirPods will feature an upgraded Bluetooth specification, though it remains to be seen if this will have an impact on the overall connectivity and sound quality or not.
While iPhone sales might be slowing down, Kuo expects AirPods shipments to grow from 16 million units in 2017 to well over 100 million units by 2021. He believes that many users will end up buying the AirPods instead of upgrading their iPhone in the future.
AirPods are hands down one of the best accessories ever unveiled by Apple. They truly work in a magical fashion and can seamlessly switch between multiple Apple devices as well which makes using them a breeze. Since the launch of AirPods, we have seen many AirPods competitors being released in the market but none of them come close to matching its ease of use and set up.
