Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S10 series at its Unpacked 2019 event, but it was the almost $2,000 Galaxy Fold which stole the limelight. With the Galaxy Fold, Samsung has finally unveiled a foldable phone for the public after teasing it for years. No wonder then that consumers are intrigued.
The whole concept of a foldable phone has a lot of promise which is why many consumers are interested in it. After all, expanding your phone’s display when needed by simply unfolding it is definitely cool and futuristic. While the Galaxy Fold is still more than two months away from launch, there are plenty of pictures and videos of the device in action that one can gawk at. With the Galaxy Fold launching on April 26 for $1,980, Samsung did not have any demo units of the device at its Unpacked 2019 event. However, the company did talk in detail about the Fold during the presentation. The device has a mechanical hinge made up of multiple gears for a smooth folding and unfolding experience. Once unfolded, the Galaxy Fold features a main 7.3-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED display, with the cover display measuring 4.6-inch and sporting 720p+ resolution. The cover display looks particularly unattractive though, with massive bezels at the top and bottom.
While that might be disappointing, do remember that this is the first iteration of the Galaxy Fold and Samsung can work on further improving it from here based on public feedback. That’s why one should also not be disappointed with the high price of the Galaxy Fold since it is not really meant for the masses right now.
