Spotify today announced that it is expanding its strategic partnership with Samsung. It will be preloading Spotify on select Galaxy devices from Samsung including the Galaxy S10 series. Additionally, the music streaming service will be offering Galaxy S10 customers in the U.S. free Spotify Premium for six months.
Spotify is already deeply integrated with Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby. While that’s an integration that most users are never going to take advantage of, pre-loading Spotify on key Galaxy devices like the Galaxy S10 is definitely going to help the music streaming company.
“We were very excited to be named Samsung’s go-to music streaming service several months ago and today’s news will only ensure a more seamless Spotify listening experience across devices for listeners around the world,” said Sten Garmark, VP of Consumer Products, Spotify. “This partnership makes it easy for Samsung mobile users to access their favorite music and podcasts on Spotify, wherever they are and however they choose to listen.”
The partnership will allow Spotify to attract more users to its streaming platform and help it take on Apple Music which is the default music app and streaming service on iPhones. Spotify had previously tied up with Google to offer a free Google Home mini to its new customers for only $0.99 which led to the company adding almost 7 million subscribers in a span of six weeks.
As for the free six-month Spotify Premium subscription, that’s only available for new Spotify subscribers in the United States. So if you are already a paying Spotify member, you are out of luck.
