Samsung Launches Apple TV App and AirPlay 2 Support for All 2019 Smart TVs, Select 2018 Models

Back in January of this year, Samsung (and many other smart TV manufacturers) announced it would support AirPlay 2 and a new Apple TV app. One month later and the company launched its 2019 QLED lineup of TVs, each of which supported the new Apple TV app and AirPlay 2. But that left a lot of smart TVs without support, including 2018 models.

That changes today. Samsung has officially announced on Monday that it is now rolling out support for AirPlay 2 and the new Apple TV app for all 2019 smart TVs. In addition to that, the company also confirmed that select 2018 smart TV models will get support for Apple’s apps and wireless features following a firmware update.

“For the last decade, Samsung has been at the forefront of offering the broadest selection of content available to consumers on our Smart TV platform,” said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As the first TV manufacturer to integrate the Apple TV app on a Smart TV platform, Samsung continues to offer our customers incredible value and access to the Apple TV app experience on the largest screens available today.”

To use the new Apple TV app, owners of the supported Samsung TVs will need to just select the brand new app. Once you sign into your Apple ID you’ll have access to all of your purchased movies and television shows from iTunes. That includes 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) content. Apple TV+, the new subscription service Apple is launching later this year, will also be supported on these TVs.

And, of course, AirPlay 2 support is also supported in all 2019 smart TV models and select 2018 models. This means select content can be streamed from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac directly to the TV.

Here are the supported models:

  • Samsung FHD/HD 4, 5 Series (2018)
  • Samsung QLED 4K Q6, Q7, Q8, Q9 Series (2018 & 2019)
  • Samsung QLED 8K Q9 Series (2019)
  • Samsung The Frame Series (2018 & 2019)
  • Samsung The Serif Series (2019)
  • Samsung UHD 6, 7, 8 Series (2018 & 2019)
