In addition to updating the MacBook Air with True Tone display and lowering its price, Apple also updated the base 13-inch MacBook Pro with Intel’s 8th gen. quad-core processors.
The switch to a quad-core processor means the updated MacBook Pro now offers 2x the performance of its predecessor.
The new MacBook Pro now also comes with Apple’s T2 security chip for enhanced security, Touch Bar, and Touch ID. This means that Apple is now no longer offering a MacBook Pro variant sans Touch Bar and Touch ID.
The base model is priced at $1,299, though students can get it for $1,199. The base model comes with a 1.4GHz quad-core Core i5 processor, 128GB SSD, Iris Plus 645 GPU, and 8GB LPDDR3 RAM. It also features two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports and a headphone jack.
Like the updated MacBook Air, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro is also a part of Apple’s Back to School promotion under which eligible customers can get a free Beats headphones along with education discounts on AppleCare and other accessories.
