Voice Community Believes Apple Could Launch ‘SiriOS’ at WWDC 2020

In its Voice Tech Report of 2019, Mangrove Capital Partner claims that Apple will launch SiriOS for developers at WWDC 2020.

The report says that over the next decade, we will see a shift towards voice-based computing. Based on this and citing the “voice community,” the report claims that Apple will launch ‘SiriOS’ at WWDC 2020 to accelerate innovation and adoption.

SiriOS would allow Apple to independently develop Siri irrespective of whether it runs on iOS, iPadOS, or macOS. In theory, it would allow developers to write and integrate their apps with SiriOS which would then automatically ensure that it runs across all available platforms from Apple. SiriOS could also potentially make HomePod more useful which currently feels severely limited due to various Siri restrictions.

The report does not cite any credible sources or any internal leaks from Apple so I would say it is better to take it with a pinch of salt.

While the popularity of voice-based computing will rise in the coming years due to the increasing popularity of smart home speakers, I am not sure how Apple launching SiriOS will help in this regard. Apple already provides developers with SiriKit so that they can integrate their apps and feature with Siri.

To make Siri useful and smarter, I believe that Apple should remove SiriKit restrictions as that would allow developers to create more powerful integrations with Siri.

Do you think SiriOS would help Apple in improving Siri and making it smarter?
