iOS 13 Hacked by Jailbreak Developer on iPhone X

iOS 13

It looks like iOS 13 has already been hacked ahead of its public release next month. Developer Luca Todesco has tweeted a photo of a hacked iOS 13 beta 8 build running on his iPhone X. The exploit also works iOS 13.1 beta 1 which dropped last week.

The developer has not provided much information about the hack or the process through which he has achieved it. Nonetheless, it looks like Todesco has taken advantage of a WebKit bug to hack iOS 13.1. The bug paves the way for remote code execution along with the ability to inject code and gain local privilege escalation.

The hack could potentially be used for an iOS 13 – iOS 13.1 jailbreak but that will require a significant effort from developers. The hack also does not mean that we are going to see an iOS 13 jailbreak drop on the day the OS is released to the public or when iOS 13.1 is released a month or two down the line. However, such development should be taken in a positive way as it shows that the jailbreaking community is very much alive and kicking.

There has been a flutter of activity in the jailbreak community over the last two weeks. An error from Apple’s part led to an iOS 12.4 jailbreak being possible which is the latest public release of the OS. That has helped revive developer interest in the jailbreaking community in a big way. Here’s hoping that developer interest also helps paves the way for an iOS 13 – iOS 13.1 jailbreak soon after its release.
