Apple officially launched Apple TV+ at today’s event. The new streaming service from Apple focusses on original programs and will be available across iPhone, Mac, iPhone and Apple TV. The Apple TV+ is free for the first month and you will be charged $4.99 once the trial is over. The company is also offering free one year of Apple TV+ for customers who purchase iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV.
The $4.99 monthly subscription fee includes family sharing for up to six members. Apple is also offering a year-long free subscription if you buy Apple TV, iPhone or iPad. Thankfully the offer stands good even if you have bought and activated your device earlier. If you have bought the device before Apple TV+ launch then you are entitled to 3-months of free subscription. However, if you have bought the device after Apple TV+ subscription then you will get it free for an entire year.
Apple TV+ Original Shows
Apple seems to be focussing on offering fewer but better content as opposed to its competitors. At $4.99, Apple TV+ is cheaper than Netflix and the upcoming Disney+. Apple TV+ launch catalog includes shows like Steve Carell and Jennifer Aniston’s The Morning Show, and Dickinson, a series portraying the life of Emily Dickson.
The company is reportedly spending up to $6 billion on producing originals for Apple TV+. That apart, Apple is expected to launch only three episodes of a series and then release the forthcoming episodes in a weekly manner. Subscribers will be able to watch Apple TV+ shows on Apple TV app which comes pre-installed on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. The Apple TV App is also expected to be launched for Amazon Fire TV, LG, Roku, Sony, and VIZIO.
Apple is also catering for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing folks by offering subtitles in nearly 40 languages. Furthermore, the audio descriptions will be available in eight languages. In order to access Apple TV+ you need to update to iOS 12.3 or later, tvOS 12.3 or later and macOS Catalina. That apart you can also subscribe for Apple TV+ on a web browser.
