At its ‘By Innovation Only’ event, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 5. The highlight of the new Apple Watch is that it comes with an Always-On Display.
Many Apple Watch users have requested for Always-On Display on the wearable and Apple is finally getting around to adding it. Apple has achieved this by using an LTPO display, a new low-power display driver, and more to achieve this.
Apple has also updated all of its watch faces to take advantage of the Always-On Display. Despite the inclusion of Always-On Display, the Apple Watch Series 5 still offers 18-hour battery life.
The new Apple Watch also comes with a built-in Compass. This means one can use the Maps app on their Apple Watch Series 5 for navigation purposes. Apple is also providing third-party apps with access to the Compass for a better experience.
Building further on the emergency calling feature which debuted on the Apple Watch Series 4 last year, Apple is adding international emergency calling to the Series 5 but it is limited to the cellular variant only.
Apple is offering the Apple Watch Series 5 in Ceramic and Titanium casing. The latter has received a custom polish from Apple and will also be available in Space Gray colors.
The Apple Watch Series 5 goes up for pre-order later today. It will hit the retail stores on September 20. Pricing starts at $399 for the 40mm GPS variant while the LTE variant starts at $499.
