Apple today released iOS 13, the next major update to iOS for iPhones. The update was initially announced by Apple at WWDC a few months ago.
iOS 13 is a massive update and adds a plethora of new features. Right from the Dark mode to improved Safari to revamped Reminders app to powerful new APIs for developers to take advantage of, there are hundreds of new features in iOS 13.
Apple has also ensured that despite adding so many new features, iOS 13 does not bring about any performance regression. It offers the same level of performance as iOS 12 and iOS 11 which is saying quite a bit. It does, however, drop support for older iPhones like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6.
iOS 13 will be available as an OTA update for all compatible iPhones. You can also use iTunes to download and install the update. Alternatively, download the iOS 13 IPSW file for your iPhone from here and then install it manually using iTunes.
A number of iOS 13 features will debut with the iOS 13.1 update late this month, with Apple adding some of them coming even later this fall.
Since Apple has branched out iPadOS for its iPad lineup, all existing iPads running iOS 12 will not be getting the iOS 13 update. Instead, they will get the iPadOS 13 update which is scheduled to release on September 30th.
