iPhone’s water resistance seems to be getting better every year. The latest iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro come with an IP68 water-resistance, however, Apple has doubled the depth to which iPhone 11 Pro can be submerged.
CNET decided to put the new iPhones through its paces and performed an underwater test. The publication teamed up with Sofar Ocean Technologies and mounted a new iPhone 11 and 11 Pro on underwater drone called Trident. The drone is capable of reaching depths of up to 328 feet and can be controlled via a companion app on your phone.
The test was carried out by submerging the new iPhones deep into Monterey Bay in California. As expected the iPhone 11 Pro survived 4m of rating for 30 minutes and all the features/hardware seem to be working just fine. Interestingly, the iPhone 11 also made the cut by surviving 4m of water for 30 minutes. Hardware and features on iPhone 11 worked just fine.
Taking it to the Extremes
The folks at CNET decided to go to the extreme. They dunked the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro to double and triple of rated depths. The iPhone 11 Pro worked even after being submerged for more than half an hour in 12 meters of water. Once again iPhone 11 took everyone by surprise by surviving similar depths with no damages whatsoever.
The only issue was muffled sound on both the speakers on iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. Maximum volume had also taken a hit and both the devices had lost a few decibels.
