The Company That Owns TikTok Has Released a Smartphone in China

We have been hearing quite a lot about smartphone from the makers of popular app TikTok. The company has finally launched a new smartphone under the Smartisan brand. It is priced at 2,899 yuan ($412) and is currently available only in China. It is worth noting that ByteDance had acquired Smartisan earlier this year.

Needless to say, the new smartphone comes integrated with the Chinese version of TikTok called Douyin. Furthermore, you can access the app by swiping up on the lock screen and directly apply TikTok’s effects and filters. Currently, the integration with TikTok on the phone seems to end here. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that Bytedance had a vision of smartphone even before buying Smartisan,

Specifications of the Jianguo Pro 3 include Snapdragon 855 Plus, 4000mAh battery, quad rear camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel sensor, 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, 8-megapixel telephoto lens, and 5-megapixel macro camera. Selfie/front-facing camera-shaped up in the form of a 20-megapixel sensor. Unlike Amazon Fire Phone, the Jianguo Pro 3 comes loaded with class-leading specifications and features like an in-display fingerprint sensor. That being said, Bytedance has not revealed whether it will sell Jianguo Pro 3 outside China.

Our Take

In the recent past, TikTok faced the wrath of regulators in India. Following a court order, Apple and Google have pulled the viral TikTok video app from the App Store and Google Play. The app had come under criticism from Indian regulators for some of the objectionable content it served to users. To make matters worse, the U.S government is also investing TikTok with regards to national security concerns.
