One of the qualms I personally had with Amazon Echo is that it always required a power source. Amazon has launched a new portable Echo smart speaker that comes with a built-in rechargeable battery. The portable Echo is rated to offer up to 10 hours of music playback and a standby time of up to 11 hours.
Amazon calls the new smart speaker “Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition” and it is backed by a 4,800mAh battery. The battery-backed smart speaker is ideal for those who want to take their Echo along. Most importantly, the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker is always on and doesn’t require you to press buttons.
Amazon’s Alexa VP Miriam Daniel told Techcrunch “Portability has been one of the most requested features in India,” he further added that “You want to be able to carry Alexa with you from room to room within your homes. So we have designed something just for you.”
The Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker is available only in India and is available for an introductory price of Rs 4,999 ($70) and is expected to be shipped on December 18th. However, the regular price will be Rs 5,999. It is worth noting that Amazon had launched something similar in the form of Amazon Tap. However, the product didn’t fare well and Amazon discontinued it
Amazon is currently not selling battery-backed Echo in any of its western markets. Moreover, the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker is exclusive to India. This makes us wonder, will Amazon offer the new Echo Input in regions other than India? If so then what will be the launch timeline.
Will you buy the battery-backed Amazon Echo Input if released in the U.S? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
