IDC, one of the world’s biggest market research firm, has published a report regarding the shipments of wearables around the globe for the third quarter of 2019. And according to the agency, the Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple is leading the wearable market segment.
International Data Corporation claims that Apple has shipped 29.5 million wearables in Q319, and has a whopping, 35% market share. That is more than double the market share of Xiaomi, which stands second in the segment with a market share of 14.6%.
In the same quarter last year, the Cupertino-based tech-giant had sold 10 million wearables. If you compare that with the shipment figure from this year, Apple has seen a jaw-dropping year-over-year growth of 195.5% in the wearable segment.
According to IDC, “Apple captured the top position thanks to the growing popularity of the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Beats headphones.” The agency reports that the launch of AirPods Pro and discounts of Apple Watch Series 3 have been critical contributing factors to the high sales figure.
While Samsung was expected to be the runner up in the sales chart, it has settled for the third position with total shipments of 8.3 million and a market share of 9.8%. Then comes Huawei, a brand that was recently banned in the US, which sold 7.1 million wearables globally and has a market share of 8.4%. Fitbit has scored the last position in the sales chart with total shipments of 3.5 million and a market share of 4.1%. The remaining 28.1% market share is divided among other brands, which contribute to total shipments of 23.8 million.
The report from IDC reveals that wireless earphones have the highest market share in the wearable segment, followed by wristbands and smartwatches. According to the higher officials at the agency, the wireless earphones market started gaining attraction as soon as the smartphone brands began removing the audio jack from their smartphones.
The prices of earwear have dropped significantly, with some products reaching as low as $20, and that is another factor contributing to the high popularity of earwear. With Apple offering massive discounts on its wearables on the occasion of Black Friday, you can expect the brand to sell even more wearables in Q419.
