Upcoming Apple TV Could Feature 128GB Storage, Kids Mode, Screen Time

Apple TV 4K

It was recently revealed that Apple is working on a new Apple TV, but none of its features were revealed. Now, it is being reported that the upcoming media streaming device will get higher storage and some new software features related to kids.

Two independent sources are now confirming that Apple is working on a newer version of Apple TV. It is being reported that it will come in two storage variants: 64GB and 128GB. This is double of what the Apple TV 4K offers (32GB and 64GB). This means that users would be able to download more apps, games, and multimedia content. A new Apple TV remote could also debut with the upcoming device.

It is also being expected that higher storage space is being offered so that users can store more games to play via their Apple Arcade memberships. Since the launch of the Apple TV 4K, high-end games are being published on the App Store. And the next Apple TV is only set to bring higher performance with a newer CPU and a more powerful GPU, so we can expect even better games to hit the Apple TV.

Other features that we can expect from the next media streaming device from the Cupertino-based firm include Kids Mode and Screen Time. These features would most probably be released as a part of tvOS 14. Kids Mode would allow parents to set separate profiles of kids and set which apps/games they can use on the device and for a set period of time.

The Screen Time feature will be available for both normal profiles and kids profiles. Users would be able to set time limits for specific apps, and the Apple TV would let users know that they’ve exhausted their time limit. It is also being reported that tvOS 14 will bring a newer design for the Apple TV+ app with a greater focus on content.

Our Take

Apple has already launched a bunch of new products recently. So, we could expect the company to launch the new Apple TV with a newer processor (probably based on the A12 Bionic or A13 Bionic chipset), higher storage configurations, and more features before the end of this year.

Due to the deadly COVID-19 outbreak, there’s a possibility of a delay of a few months in the launch of Apple’s new products and services.
