Apple Over-Ear Headphones Could Launch at WWDC, AirPods X Due for September

A new leak from YouTuber Jon Prosser has provided more details about Apple’s upcoming over-ear headphones and the ‘AirPods Pro Lite.’

Rumors about Apple working on over-ear headphones have been floating around the internet for long. The headphones will carry a premium price tag and offer active noise cancellation along with excellent sound quality. As per @Jon_Prosser, the headphones carry the codename B515 and will rival the likes of the Sony WH-1000XM3 and the Bose 700. Apple is presumably aiming for a WWDC 2020 launch with a $350 price tag.

Additionally, Apple is also working on AirPods X carrying the codename B517. The wireless earbuds would be meant for sports/running and would be similar to the Beats X. The rumor claims a $200 price tag and a September/October launch. DigiTimes has claimed that Apple is working on the ‘AirPods Pro Lite’ and the AirPods X could very well just be that. The AirPods X was previously rumored to be Apple’s over-ear headphones. The AirPods X could very well miss out on active noise cancellation but retain the sweatproof design as seen on the AirPods Pro.

The end goal of these product launches from Apple is to phase out the Beats brand. In a bid to clear inventory of Beats products, Apple is offering them at a 40% discount to its employees. Apple has been offering the HomePod at a 50% discount to its employees for $149 to clear its stock. Apple did recently launch the Powerbeats wireless earphones under the Beats branding so the rumor about the company phasing out the Beats branding in favor of AirPods does sound a bit dubious.

Are you looking forward to Apple launching the AirPods X? Or are you more excited about the over-ear headphones?
