Skype reminds us that anyone will be able to start a Skype call with just a link. This means no hassles of downloading or signing-up for Skype.

The feature is expected to help Skype users across multiple platforms. This is something that Zoom already offers. Users will be able to start a video call with just one click. The Skype link can be used across multiple devices and platforms. All you need to do is enter your name and create a guest account. Please note that your guest account will expire in 24 hours. This means you will not be able to schedule Skype calls further than 24 hours in the future.

Easy video meetings with no sign ups or downloads. Generate your free unique link with one click, share it with participants and enjoy unlimited meetings with Skype. Full set of features at your disposal. Your meeting link does not expire and can be used anytime.

The Skype feature couldn’t have been highlighted at a better time. As the world is reeling from the COVID-19 outbreak, most of the people are working remotely. As expected, collaborative tools like Slack, Skype, and Zoom have seen a spike in its userbase. At the same time, several Zoom vulnerabilities have come to the forefront. Zoom has already announced that it will not update any of its features and will only work on addressing security issues and other bugs.

Zoom rose to popularity because it allowed users across multiple platforms set up meetings with just a link. Now Skype has reminded that it is offering a feature in similar lines and hopefully, it should help get new users. Without the, one had to download, install and sign up for Skype in order to join/host video calls. Now all of that is history with link-based video calling.

Update: The article initially mentions that this was a new feature. However, it is an existing feature. We have updated the article accordingly and regret the mistake.
