BGR reports that Apple will be launching iPad Air and Retina iPad mini in India this Saturday, December 7th.
A little more than a week after a surprise launch, walk-in customers can finally buy the Retina iPad mini from Apple retail stores. Previously, Apple Stores were only offering the Retina iPad mini for buyers who had reserved the device through Apple’s online Personal Pickup option.
Availability of cellular models of the Retina iPad mini with US carriers suggest that the device’s supply is heavily constrained. Â While Apple shows shipping times of 5-10 business days for cellular variants of the Retina iPad mini, availability of the latest generation iPad mini with US carriers ranges from anywhere between two weeks to eight weeks.
While the second-generation iPad mini has an impressive 326 ppi Retina display, further analysis of the display revealed that its colors aren’t as vibrant as those produced on the iPad Air’s display. Now, detailed tests performed by DisplayMate reveal that not only is the display on the iPad mini not as good as the iPad Air, but it is also inferior to the Kindle Fire HDX 7 and the Nexus 7.
Many first-generation Retina MacBook Pros exhibited an issue where a faint remnant of an image persists on the screen even after a new image replaces it. The issue seemed to be tied to Sharp-manufactured units, and seems to be present in certain Retina iPad mini units as well, presumably, the ones with displays made by Sharp.
While last year’s iPad mini was a couple of generations behind the larger iPad in terms of hardware internals, this time virtually the only difference between the Retina iPad mini and the iPad Air are their screen sizes. Both have an A7 chip, a 2048 x 1536 pixels Retina display and almost the same physical design.
Apple may have shut down Apple-Tracker, the iPhone and iPad inventory tracking website, but that hasn’t stopped folks at Seaturtle.org launching their own iPhone and iPad inventory tracking tool, which can be very useful if you want to buy the Retina iPad mini, which is in very short supply.
