Back in April, we reported that it was highly unlikely that Apple will launch the sixth generation iPhone in June, based on the warning issued by Qualcomm.
Qualcomm is widely expected to provide baseband chips for the next generation iPhone like iPhone 4S and the new iPad.
9to5Mac reports that Apple is testing multiple prototypes of the next generation iPhone and at least one of them has a taller screen.
The sixth generation iPhone prototypes are currently in the PreEVT stage of development and are codenamed N41AP (iPhone 5,1) and N42AP (iPhone 5,2).
With a 4-inch iPhone (probably) dropping by this October, Apple has a big task ahead of itself — keeping the complexity involved during the design and development process of an app to the bare minimum.
The consensus is that, if Apple does release a 4 inch iPhone, it’ll most likely switch to an aspect ratio of 9:5 from the current 3:2, keeping the width the same. (There are of course a variety of other options as well.)
Chatter about an iPhone with a larger screen has been going on since the pre-iPhone 4S days, but this time around these claims have been backed by reliable sources like The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and John Gruber.
Apple has always held pride in the fact that iOS is easy to develop for, and that it isn’t fragmented like Android. Even when it upgraded to Retina displays, it made sure that the number of pixels in the new screens were a whole number multiple of the previous screen resolution.
It is widely speculated that Apple’s next generation iPhone will come with a larger 4-inch screen.
However, it is not clear if the 4-inch screen will be bigger in both height and width or it will come with a taller screen, to reduce the effort required by developers to update their apps for the new screen resolution.
It looks like the embargo has been lifted. Bloomberg is the third publication after Wall Street Journal and Reuters to confirm that Apple’s next generation iPhone will feature a larger screen.
Bloomberg also reports that according to their source, Steve Jobs had worked closely on the redesigned next generation iPhone with a larger screen.
Last week, we reported that Apple had filed a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to gain control of the iPhone5.com domain.
The Next Web reports that the status of the case, which was ‘Case Active’, has changed to “Terminated” on WIPO’s website, indicating that Apple has won the dispute.
We’ve heard several rumors that have claimed that Apple will finally launch an iPhone with a larger screen later this year.
Wall Street Journal has just added some credibility to those rumors, as they report that Apple has placed orders for screens measuring “at least 4 inches diagonally” for the next generation iPhone.
Few days back, iLounge reported that according to their source, Apple’s next generation iPhone will be thinner and come with a taller 4-inch Retina Display and a smaller dock connector.
According to iLounge, Apple will also add a metal panel in the central portion of the real shell of the new iPhone instead of the glass panel used in iPhone 4S and iPhone 4.
Back in March, iMore had reported that the next generation iPhone (iPhone 5,1) will be available later this fall/October will feature the same 3.5-inch screen or very close to it, support 4G LTE networks and come with a new micro dock connector.
