Sketchy Rumor: Apple to unveil 12-inch Retina MacBook Air at October 16 event, future products to have 3D logos
With just one day until Apple’s second media event in as many months, a new report from Taiwan-based DigiTimes claims that the Cupertino-based company will announce a new MacBook Air with a 12-inch Retina display at its October 16 keynote tomorrow afternoon. The report adds that Apple will begin using 3D-like logos on its future products.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a new research note in which he predicts that Apple will unveil both the iPad Air 2 and iMac with Retina display at its October 16 event tomorrow. iPad Air 2 supplies could be limited, however, while the first Retina-equipped iMacs will only be available in 27-inch models that ship by the end of this year.
While Apple’s big September event has come and gone, and with it we saw the unveiling of the iPhone 6 lineup, Apple Pay and Apple Watch, there’s another event often rumored to be right around the corner.
According to DigiTimes, citing Taiwan-based supply chain sources, Apple will launch a thinner MacBook by late 2014 or early 2015. The report claims that Apple manufacturing partners have began production of components for the next-generation MacBook in small volumes as the launch of the notebook approaches.
There have long been rumors about a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air, and Intel today said that the 14nm Broadwell chip, a key component of the rumored device, would ship in time for the holiday season.
Following a reference to a mid-2014 model Mac mini that was recently uncovered on an Apple support page for Boot Camp, and later removed, it has now been reported that a mid-2014 model 27-inch iMac was also briefly listed on the same page. Apple has yet to release a new Mac mini or 27-inch iMac this year, hinting that updates could be on the horizon.

Apple could be preparing to refresh its Retina MacBook Pro lineup with improved hardware as soon as tomorrow, according to a pair of reports that surfaced over the weekend and this morning. The ultra-slim notebooks could be upgraded with faster Haswell processors and increased RAM under the hood, with each model retaining the same price point as the previous generation.
It has been widely been rumored that Apple will launch a 12-inch MacBook Air later this year.
