iPhone 5 And iPad 2 To Get Dual-Core SGX543 GPU

AppleInsider is reporting that according to their source, the next generation iPad and iPhone will get a new version of Apple’s A4 chip, which uses the dual-core SGX535 GPU from Imagination Technologies.

According to AppleInsider, the new version of the A4 chip will enable Apple to bring Retina-like Display to iPad 2 and could also bring 1080p HD support to iOS Devices.

Best Buy’s website has been been notorious for leaking information regarding Apple’s upcoming products in the past. Of course it’s a different story that some of these leaks were grossly misleading. For example, back in 2009, a new product appeared on the website that was listed as a “mobile computing device”. We’ve heard several rumors and speculations about Retina Display coming to the second generation iPad that is expected to be launched towards the end of March or April.

MacRumors have found new graphics in iBooks application with higher resolution labelled “iPadx2”, which indicates that iPad 2 may come with a display that has twice the resolution in both directions (2048×1536) of the current iPad (1024×768). This means that iPad 2 may come with a 2048×1536 screen resolution at 260 DPI compared to current iPad’s 1024×768 screen resolution at 132 DPI.

Until now, Apple’s iOS devices including the likes of the iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, and Apple TV (2010) uses the PowerVR SGX535 GPU from Imagination Technologies for all their graphics rendering needs. Considering the fact that this chip has been in business since the iPhone 3GS days, its longevity is commendable indeed. However, it is clear that Apple would need to look for an upgrade when it comes to the next generation of iOS devices and they might actually have found the perfect one.

Folks at Boy Genius Report are claiming that according to their source, Apple is planning to remove the home button from the iPhone and iPad.

Apple To Announce iPad 2 In The Next 3-4 Weeks?

Digg founder, Kevin Rose claims that he has received information from a reliable source that Apple will announce the next generation iPad in the next 3-4 weeks, possibly February 1st.

Kevin Rose writes on his blog:

I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.

Purported iPad 2 Cases Removed

Earlier in the week, we had reported that purported cases of the next generation iPad suggest that it will get an iPod Touch 4G-like form factor with a flat back and tapering sides.

But the rumor has taken an interesting twist. Wall Street Journal is reporting that the iPad 2 cases that were found on Chinese e-commerce website, AliBaba.com have been removed after a takedown request.

Apple May Release Three Versions Of Next Generation iPad; Including a CDMA Version

Taiwan based publication Digtimes is reporting that Apple is expected to release three different versions of the next generation Apple iPad – including a CDMA version.

Digitimes claims that according to “industry sources”, the mass production of all three versions will start in the later half of January 2011. Apple has initially kept a ratio of 3:4:3 for Wi-Fi, UMTS and the CDMA versions of the iPad respectively.
