Unc0ver jailbreak is the first public iOS 12 jailbreak. Released almost six months after the first public jailbreak for iOS 12.
The Unc0ver jailbreak has been developed by the @pwn20wnd team. It supports almost all iPhones and iPads in the market running iOS 12 – iOS 12.2, and A7-A11 devices on iOS 12.4 – iOS 12.3. Below is everything you need to know about it.
Unc0ver is a semi-tethered jailbreak, which is similar to an untethered jailbreak, it gives the ability to reboot your iOS device on its own. On each boot, the iOS device startup sequence is unmodified and it boots into its original, non-jailbroken state. However, instead of needing to use a tool from a computer to re-jailbreak the iOS device again, like a tethered or semi-tethered cases, the user can re-jailbreak their device with the help of an app running on the iOS device such as the Electra app in case of Electra jailbreak.
iOS 12 Exploits and Unc0ver Jailbreak
In the months following iOS 12 release, we saw many Chinese developers show off iOS 12 exploits that could be used for a jailbreak. However, none of them released the exploit to the public. Then in January this year, we saw a number of iOS 12 – iOS 12.1.2 exploits being posted by Project Zero team members including Ian Bar and other Chinese security researchers.
The @pwn20wnd team took one such exploit and worked on it to create the first public iOS 12 – iOS 12.1.2 jailbreak. Saurik also worked behind the scenes to add Cydia support for iOS 12 and Unc0ver jailbreak.
The first stable release of Unc0ver jailbreak for iOS 12 – iOS 12.1.2 was released after almost two months of exhaustive beta testing from the @pwn20wnd team.

Before you try to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad using Unc0ver, it is extremely important that you ensure no iOS 12 OTA file has been downloaded and saved on your device.
