World's First Software Method to Unlock iPhone 3G Released [Updated]

iPhone Dev Team have finally released their much awaited software method to unlock iPhone 3G.

Its also the world's first software solution to unlock iPhone 3G and it supports all firmwares including baseband firmware 02.28.00 which they had earlier indicated might not be supported.

The dev team has released an updated version of their yellowsn0w application (v0.9.4) to unlock iPhone 3G.

The dev team has released an updated version of their yellowsn0w application (v0.9.5) which fixes quite a few problems including some STK (SIM Toolkit) issues.

iPhone Dev Team Broadcast Live Demo of iPhone 3G being Unlocked using their Software Method

The iPhone Dev team who are planning to release the much awaited software method to unlock iPhone 3G on New Year's eve have just broadcasted a live demo video of an iPhone 3G being software unlocked with yellowsn0w (name of their project to unlock iPhone 3G) via Qik.

Simple Steps to Re-enable DFU Mode in Mac OS X 10.5.6 to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone

The 10.5.6 update for Mac OS X Leapord that Apple released earlier in the week prevented Mac from recognizing iPhone in DFU mode, making it impossible to jailbreak and/or unlock it using PwnageTool or QuickPwn.

The iPhone Dev Team had provided some fixes for the DFU problems which needed some knowledge of the system and heavy use of the Terminal application.

Fortunately, now there's an easy solution to fix this problem. All you need to do is follow some simple steps available after the break.

iPhone Dev Team: Software Method to Unlock iPhone 3G to be Released on New Year’s Eve; Possible Fixes for DFU Problems with Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update [Updated]

The 10.5.6 update for Mac OS X Leapord that Apple released yesterday prevents your Mac from recognizing your iPhone in DFU mode, making it impossible to jailbreak and/or unlock it using PwnageTool or QuickPwn.

The iPhone Dev Team believes that it is due to a kernel bug rather than a specific countermeasure by Apple. They have also provided possible fixes.

But more importantly they have also provided the release date for their software unlocking method for iPhone 3G which we all have been waiting for.

Vietnamese Hacker Unlocks iPhone 3G at Hardware Level

We have heard about the hardware-method to unlock iPhone 3G using turbo or proxy SIM cards (which does not work with iPhone firmware 2.2).

We have also reported about the iPhone dev team who are working tirelessly to release their software method to unlock iPhone 3G and appear to be very close.

There is apparently a third way to unlock iPhone 3G. You can get your iPhone 3G physically unlocked by an industrious Vietnamese hacker.

Apple Breaks Hardware Method to Unlock iPhone 3G with Firmware 2.2

Prior to the release of iPhone firmware 2.2, the iPhone Dev Team had warned iPhone 3G users to avoid upgrading to it when its available until they give an all clear.

They later confirmed that iPhone 3G users who were interested in unlocking their iPhones should NOT upgrade to the latest firmware.

But when Apple released iPhone firmware 2.2 on Thursday night quite a few 1st gen iPhone and iPhone 3G users ended up accidentally upgrading their iPhones to the latest firmware as they reported that iPhone firmware 2.2 also included an update for iPhone 3G's baseband firmware.

Based on reader comments here at iPhone Hacks and other discussion forum threads it appears that Apple has broken the hardware method to unlock iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2, as they are no longer able to use their iPhones 3Gs after upgrading.

iPhone Dev Team Releases Pwnage Tool 2.2.1 which Fixes Bug related to "Simple Mode"

The iPhone Dev Team had released PwnageTool 2.2, QuickPwn 2.2 for Mac & QuickPwn 2.2 for Windows yesterday for iPhone Firmware 2.2 that was released by Apple on Thursday night.

However, there was a minor bug where iPhone users had problems using the "Simple Mode" in PwnageTool  and as a workaround had to use the "Expert Mode".

They has just released Pwnage Tool v2.2.1 which fixes the bug related to "Simple Mode".
