Sling Media shows off its proof-of-concept SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone

One native iPhone app we all have been craving for is a SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone. As we were in the middle of the 3G iPhone news, rumors and speculations I forgot to give you folks the good news.

Engadget had reported earlier in the week that Sling Media is developing SlingPlayer Mobile client for the iPhone and had also published a hands-on video of iPhone version of SlingPlayer Mobile.

Sling Media’s Slingbox allows you to watch TV from any Internet connected PC or laptop, Mac, or smartphone thus making it possible to watch your favorite television shows virtually from anywhere in the world.

They have already released mobile version of their client called SlingPlayer mobile for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Palm OS or Symbian cell phones and PDAs.

Sling Media is now planning to bring the SlingPlayer to iPhone using its SDK. They demoed the pre-alpha proof-of-concept version on a jailbroken iPhone as they are yet to be officially accepted by Apple into their developer program (strange that they did not get a look in amongst the first 4000 developers Apple accepted for the iPhone developer program).

Assuming that they get accepted to the developer program soon they are hoping to release the iPhone version of SlingPlayer sometime this fall or winter. You can checkout the video clip of the native iPhone app in action in the video below:

Based on the what we have seen so far the SlingPlayer Mobile could easily be one of the killer iPhone applications for the 3G iPhone to be rolled out on July 11. What do you think?

I will keep you posted as and when we hear more on SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone, so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks.
