iPhone Dev Team release updated version of their Tool – Pwnage Tool 2.0.1

The iPhone Dev Team seem to be working overtime. Based on the feedback and complaints they received from iPhone users after the release of Pwnage Tool 2.0 yesterday, they have just released the updated version of their Pwnage Tool i.e. v2.0.1 to fix some of the known issues.

More details of the latest version available after the jump.

As you would expect, the latest version of Pwnage Tool is to address the problems faced by users in the initial release. As per iPhone Dev Team’s blog, they have addressed the following issues:

  • It auto-finds the bl39 and bl46 files better, if they’re on your computer
  • It creates the ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/ folder if not
present, which should help with some 1600 errors people have been
    having.
  • Many people have reported the PwnageTool not starting up at all
(the icon never stops bouncing). This issue should be resolved now.
  • The Sparkle AppCast URL is fixed in this version, so automatic updates should work for future releases.

The iPhone Dev Team recommends that everyone who
downloaded Pwnage Tool 2.0 should get this version as the AppCast URL fix will now ensure that the Pwnage Tool is updated automatically.

It goes without saving that if you have successfully pwned your iPhone using Pwnage Tool 2.0, then you do NOT need to pwn it again with Pwnage Tool 2.0.1.

The latest version of tool is currently available only for Mac users just like the initial version, Windows users can checkout this Step-by-Step Guide to Pwn original iPhone running firmware 2.0 using Windows.

You can download Pwnage Tool v2.0.1 for Mac (file size: 19.7 MB), by following this link or this one.

Thanks everyone for the useful feedback with the initial version, if you had problems with Pwnage Tool 2.0 or are trying this out for the first time do let us know how does it goes with the latest version of iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage Tool. But before you hack your iPhone, don’t forget to take a backup of your iPhone.

Thanks Richard Cranium for the tip!

Update:

Pwnage Tool 2.0.1 cannot unlock iPhone 3G as of now just like the initial version. The iPhone Dev Team have been able to jailbreak iPhone firmware 2.0 running on iPhone 3G,
however they are working hard to unlock iPhone 3G.

Update (9th Aug, 2008):
