iOS 4.1 Release Date – September 8; iPhone Dev Team Warn Jailbreaks And Unlockers To Stay Away

iOS 4.1

Steve Jobs had announced at Apple’s special event earlier in the week that iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch users will be released next week.

We had reported that even though Apple’s US site continues to say that iOS 4.1 coming soon, Apple’s Spanish site had confirmed that iOS 4.1 release date is September 8.

Apple’s UK site has also been updated to say that iOS 4.1 will be available on September 8 while Apple’s US site continues to say “Coming Soon”.

To recap, iOS 4.1 will include the following new features and fixes:

  • High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos: Steve Jobs explained that HDR photos are created using 3 photos taken in rapid succession: one normal, one under-exposed, and one over-exposed. The photos are then combined using some pretty sophisticated algorithms to create an enhanced composite photo

  • Game Center: Apple’s social gaming network

  • Ability to rent TV shows from your iPhone for $0.99

  • HD video upload from your iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi

  • Fix for proximity sensor, Bluetooth and iPhone 3G iOS 4  performance problems

iOS 4.1

MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has advised users who want to jailbreak and/or unlock their iPhone to avoid upgrading to iOS 4.1 when it is released next week.

So far, Dev Team hasn’t provided an update on jailbreaking iOS 4.1 though they had mentioned that not releasing a jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 was a “winning move” and had indicated that they are working on a jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve any further updates. So stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.
