Dev Team To Release Ultrasn0w To Unlock iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G After iOS 4.2 Is Released

Unlock iPhone 4

There is finally some good news for iPhone users who want to unlock their iPhone.

MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has tweeted that they will be releasing Ultrasn0w for iOS 4.2, one or two days after it is released.

However, the software unlocking solution will be only available for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users initially.

MuscleNerd responded to a question from one of his followers on Twitter:

simplysaru: @MuscleNerd thanks.. how long would the wait be for 4.2 any approximate time

MuscleNerd: @simplysaru if you’re on 3G or 3GS, just a day or 2 at most after 4.2 is public (just enough time to verify stuff)

So it looks like iPhone Dev Team has figured out a way to unlock baseband 05.14.02 that was bundled with iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users.

They still need to figure out a way to unlock baseband 02.10.04 that was bandled in iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 users.

It also remains to be seen if iOS 4.2 comes with a baseband update, in which case users will have to use tools like PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze to upgrade to pre-jailbroken iOS 4.2 and preserve the baseband from getting updated.
